Teacher will have available a variety of national news magazines for formatting examples. Teacher will assign a current event within a one week period to research and write about.

 

 

You will need a computer(s) loaded with ClarisWorks or Microsoft Works and printer.

 

 

Discuss sources of information, ie., television, newspapers, news magazines, Internet, radio, etc.

 

 

Create a multi-column format in a word processor for a current event magazine article. Include headlines and photographs with captions.

 

Write a rough draft within the format, print and edit with their peers.

 

Prepare final copy for teacher editing/conference.

 

 

Assemble the event pages into a class magazine for the, "news of the week." Include a table of contents, editorial, author profiles, etc.

 

Design a magazine cover and bind it.

 

Do a takeoff on your favorite tabloid, News of the Weird.
