-
- You have several choices for bringing a still
image, such as a drawing or a photograph, into your multimedia project. This
activity card describes one way&emdash; using a flatbed scanner.
Activity cards 2-4 describe other popular ways to capture a still image.

- 1. Connect the scanner to the Macintosh.
-
- 2. Turn on the scanner
-
- 3. Start up the scanner software. Most scanners
come with scanner software, sometimes called a scanner driver. For example,
Apple scanners come with Ofoto or
OneScanner Dispatcher.
Double-click the icon to start up the software.
-
- 4. Scan the image into the Macintosh. (Make sure
the glass on the scanner is clean. To clean small smudges on the glass, use
a soft tissue or paper towel.)
-
- 5. Place the original facedown on the glass and
close the lid.
-
- 6. In your scanning program, click Scan or a
similar command. For example, if you're using Ofoto,
click Autoscan in the Scan Controls dialog box.
-
- 7. Save the content. To save the scan you've just
created, choose Save from the File menu. In the dialog box that appears,
type in a filename you'll remember. Then choose the file format you want.
-
- 8. Click Save.
-
-
- 1. Use an image-editing program such as Color
It! to edit the image. You can crop the
image, retouch it, change colors, and so on.
-
- 2. Save the edited image. If you have the disk
space, save the edited image under a different name from the one you used
earlier. Using Save As keeps the original, unedited image in a separate file
so that you can go back to it. If you don't have the extra disk space, just
choose Save, which overwrites the original, unedited image you saved
earlier.
-
- 3. Bring the edited image into your project. The
way you import the image into your project depends on which authoring
software you're using. To bring your edited image into a HyperStudio
card, choose Add Clip Art from the File
menu.
