This activity card tells you how to use a commercial
videodisc as the basis of your own multimedia project.

- 1. Choose a videodisc - the videodisc you choose
will be the basis of your HyperCard or
HyperStudio stack.
-
- 2. Connect the equipment.
-
- 3. Connect the videodisc player to a TV.
-
- 4. Connect the videodisc player to your Macintosh
using a CC04 cable.

- For a videodisc project, you must use either
HyperCard or HyperStudio
- authoring tools that have videodisc
drivers.
-
- 1. Set preferences. In the authoring tool, indicate
which type of videodisc player (VDP) you are using.
-
- 2. Make sure the port chosen in the authoring tool
matches the port into which you plugged the VDP cable - for example, if
you're using HyperStudio, choose Laserdisc Port Chooser from the Extras
menu. Then make sure the settings match your hardware setup.
-
-
- 1. Using the remote control for the videodisc
player, find the segment you want.
-
- 2. In your project notes, write a brief description
of the segment.
-
- 3. Next to the segment description, note the frame
numbers of the first frame and last frame in the segment.
-
- 4. Repeat steps 1-3 until you've identified all the
segments you want to use in your project.
-
-
- 1. Open HyperCard or
HyperStudio.
-
- 2. Start a new stack, adding text and other
content.
-
- 3. Wherever you want the user to be able to play a
segment from the videodisc, create a button. When you add an action to the
button, specify the source to be the videodisc player and the range to be
the frame numbers you noted earlier.
-
- 4. If necessary, save the stack. (HyperCard
automatically saves your stack as you work
with it.)
