- This activity tells you how to digitize part of an
audiotape for use in a multimedia project. Activity 7 tells you how to
record sound directly into your Macintosh.

- 1. Connect the cassette deck or stereo system to
your Macintosh.
-
- 2. Start the audio capture software.
-
- 3. You can capture sound using SoundMate,
in the Multimedia Utilities folder. You
can also use HyperStudio to record the sound.
-
- 4. Set preferences - In your audio-capture
software, choose the sound quality, including the sampling rate (measured in
kHz) and bit depth (measured in bits).
-
- 5. Transfer the audio to the Macintosh.
-
- 6. On your cassette deck, press Play.
-
-
- 1. In your audio-capture software, click Record to
start digitizing the audiotape.
-
- 2. When you're finished transferring as much as you
need, click Stop.
-
- 3. On your cassette deck, press Stop.
-
- 4. Save the content.
-
- 5. Choose Save from the Edit menu.
-
- 6. In the Save dialog box, type a name for the
sound you recorded.
-
- 7. Choose a format for saving the sound and click
OK.
-
-
- 1. Use a sound-editing program such as SoundMate
to edit the audio clip. You can change volume, repeat sounds, fade out, and
so on.
-
- 2. Save the edited content.
-
- 3. Choose Save As from the File menu. This command
lets you save the edited audio under a different name from the one you used
earlier.
-
- 4. In the dialog box that appears, type a filename
you'll remember. For example, if you saved your original sound as
"Voiceover," save the edited version as
"Voiceover-edit."
-
-
- The exact steps for bringing in sound depend on
which authoring tool you're using.
-
- 1. Open the authoring tool you're using for your
project, if it's not already open.
-
- 2. Start a new multimedia project or open an
existing project.
-
- 3. Add the edited audio clip to your project - for
example, to add an audio clip to a HyperStudio
card, first create a button or other
object and add the "Play a sound" action to this object. In the
Tape Deck dialog box, choose Disk Library. Finally, in the list that
appears, choose the sound file you want.
