Teachers will initiate a collaborative unit focusing on sports statistics and school teams. For example, a statistical study can be conducted on the basketball teams.
 
 
You will need a roster of boys and girls teams, schedule of games, scores, player stats., and height/age of players. etc. (Note: See if you can acquire records from teams of previous years.) Have available computer(s) loaded with Claris Impact or Power Point. Quick Take, 35mm camera, and video camera. Arrange to have access to a media cart.
 
 
Track the progress of their basketball teams over the season.

Record wins/losses, team points, opponent points, player points, rebounds, minutes played, overtime, fouls, assists, etc.

 
Interview players and coaches and create profiles. For example, name, age, height, number of years on team, etc.
 
Get photos of the team and players.
 
Videotape a game(s).
 
Prepare a season highlights presentation of at least twenty-five (25) slides in Claris Impact to be used at an awards night (a slide for each team member and one of the team plus highlights).

Create graphs and charts to compare team/opponent statistics.
 
Create graphs and charts to show individual performance.
 
Track the physical fitness development of the players. For example, have the school nurse measure the heights of the players, pulse rate, etc., or have players keep an endurance record for the season, i.e., laps run, playing time, warm-up exercise repetitions, etc. Graph the results.
