- On a map of the world, the teacher and students
will plot the origins of their families. Students will be grouped according
to their regions of the world. Teacher has students construct family trees
for use in a presentation about immigration, concentrating on one ethnic
group in the family.

- You will need a computer(s) (16 MB RAM) loaded with
HyperStudio,
Quick Take camera
and software, computer/scanner with software installed, and ancestral
photographs, letters or journals. Arrange to have several computers or a
mini-lab for final presentations.

- Interview relatives for anecdotal family history,
especially grandparents and their living siblings. They may want to record
the interviews on audio cassette.

- Collect letters, photographs, and journals.

- Organize the information and write a biography, in
narrative form, of a significant family member or branch of the family,
including immigration information, occupation/trade, interesting anecdotes,
etc.

- Scan and format photographs and important
historical documents.

- Construct a story board of at least six (6) cards.
Launch HyperStudio
and format a home card template.

- Set-up computer workstations according to their
geographic groups and present looped slide shows.

- Construct a timeline of the family history using Claris
Impact or Timeliner
and make a poster or banner.

- Incorporate recorded interviews (Karaoke).

- Visit cemeteries, record information, do a
gravestone rubbing and/or use Quick Take
camera.
