Based on a social studies unit, teacher will assign cooperative learning groups to do Internet research on a city. (Teachers require primary source information* be submitted with the finished product.)
 
 
You will need a computer(s) with Internet access and a word processing program. You will also need access to a printer.
 
 
Research factual information using Internet search engines. Gather geographic, cultural, and historical data about their cities using keywords, concepts and search strategies (Refer to appendix).
 
Print and collate the gathered data and extract and organize the information using notes, scrapbook, etc.
 
Create a brochure emphasizing highlights of the city, include text and pictures.
 
 
Find a school in the selected city to swap travel information through email or access Internet site like Kidsphere and begin a keypal exchange.
 
Create an itinerary in a word processing format for a weeklong trip to the selected city, include transportation, accommodations, and a daily travel plan.
 
Create an AAA guide to your city. Include maps, climate, currency and rate of exchange, hotels, restaurants, historical sites, points of interest, etc. - Incorporate pictures and graphics.
 
Create a postcard, "from the edge," in a ClarisWorks or Microsoft Works template with a scene from your city.
