In this activity, you'll learn how to capture video for use in your multimedia project. Activity 6 shows you how to digitize video from a videotape. By following these steps, you will record not only video but also any accompanying sound.

1. Connect your equipment.

2. Connect the video camera to your Macintosh.

3. Start the video capture software. To capture video, you can use Strata VideoShop, HyperStudio, or MoviePlayer.

4. Set preferences (optional). In your video-capture software, you can set preferences for video quality and sound quality.

5. Record the video - in your video-capture software, click Record (or a similar command) to begin recording.

6. When you've finished recording, click Stop.

7. Save the video - in the dialog box that appears, type in a filename you'll remember and choose a location on the hard disk to save the video clip.

1. Open a video-editing application, such as Strata Video Shop.

2. Open the video clip you saved.

3. Use the editing tool to clip, cut, splice, create titles, or add transitions and other effects to your movie.

4. Save the edited video.

5. Choose Save As from the File menu - this command lets you save the edited video under a different name from the one you used earlier.

6. In the dialog box that appears, type in a filename you'll remember. For example, if you called your recording "Intro," call the edited movie "Intro-edit."

1. Open the authoring tool you're using for your project, if it's not already open.

2. Start a new multimedia project or open an existing project.

3. Add the edited video to your project. For example, to add a video to a HyperStudio card, first create a button or other object, then add the "Play a movie or video" action to this object.
