This activity tells you how to record sound&emdash;
such as voiceover or narration&emdash; directly into your Computer.
Activity 8 tells you how to digitize a prerecorded sound.

- 1. Connect the equipment. If your Computer has a
built-in microphone, you can skip this step. If your Computer does not have
a built-in microphone, or if you want higher sound quality, connect a
microphone to the sound input port of your Computer.
-
- 2 Turn on the microphone.
-
- 3. Start the audio capture software - you can
capture sound using SoundMate, in the Multimedia Utilities folder. You can
also use HyperStudio
to record the sound.
-
- 4. Set preferences (optional). In your
audio-capture software, choose the sound quality, including the sampling
rate (measured in kHz) and bit depth (measured in bits).
-
-
- 1. Click Record and begin speaking into the
microphone.
-
- 2. When you're done, click Stop.
-
- 3. Click Play to preview the sound you just
recorded. If you don't like the sound, re-record it.
-
- 4. Save the content.
-
- 5. Choose Save from the Edit menu.
-
- 6. In the Save dialog box, type a name for the
sound you recorded.
-
- 7. Choose a format for saving the sound and click
OK.
-
-
- 1. Use a sound-editing program such as SoundMate to
edit the sound. You can change volume, repeat sounds, fade out, and so on.
-
- 2. Save the edited content.
-
- 3. Choose Save As from the File menu. This command
lets you save the edited sound under a different name from the one you used
earlier.
-
- 4. In the dialog box that appears, type a filename
you'll remember. For example, if you saved your original sound as
"Voiceover," save the edited version as
"Voiceover-edit."
-
-
- The exact steps for bringing in sound depend on
which authoring tool you're using.
-
- 1. Open the authoring tool you're using for your
project, if it's not already open.
-
- 2. Start a new multimedia project or open an
existing project.
-
- 3. Add the edited audio clip to your project - for
example, to add an audio clip to a HyperStudio card, first create a button
or other object and add the "Play a sound" action to this object.
In the Tape Deck dialog box, choose Disk Library. Finally, in the list that
appears, choose the sound file you want.
