A Message from Mrs. Penning (WRHS School Nurse):

Greetings to all Incoming Freshmen!

I would like to welcome all of you as our newest members of the Wachusett Regional High School Community.

There are usually a mixture of feelings and emotions about this latest and greatest transition; some good and some maybe not so good.  Guess What?  All of these feelings both you and your child might be feeling are completely normal.  Take time to talk with your child about these feelings and if you are not so sure you have the answers, please feel free to call us at the high school and we will try and answer these questions for you to help make this transition as smooth and easy as possible for all of you.

At this time, I would like to refer you to the WRSD website.  Once you have logged onto the website, please go to the WRHS section and click onto the Health Office link.

From there you will be given information about what is required by the school prior to your child starting high school such as updated physicals and immunizations.  If your child will be taking any scheduled or PRN medications the medication policy is there as well, and there is a Medication Order and Parent Consent Form that you can download and print for you to fill out and then give to your child’s physician to fill out and return to us.  (Please remember that the parent or a responsible adult needs to bring in the medication at the beginning of the school year and it must be in the original prescription labelled bottle or if an over-the-counter medication, in its original container along with the Medication Order and Parent Consent Form).

Any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you and congratulations again on your next journey... High School!

Sincerely,

Krista W. Penning RN, BSN, MSNO

NUTRITION  BREAK – Students will be allowed time to have a small nutritious snack during second block (9:05-9:55).  Students must bring the snack with them to class and will not be allowed to leave after the start of the period. The policy which states no food or drink (with the exception of clear water) outside of the cafeteria will not change other than this nutrition break. Abuse of this policy may result in a loss of privileges. Due to safety issues some classes may be excluded from this policy (i.e., science labs, computer labs, gymnasium). Nutritious snacks are recommended such as fruit, breakfast bars, etc.

The cafeteria will be selling nutritious snacks as students enter the
building in the morning between 8:05 and 8:15 for interested students.
The snacks will be cash only.

A Message from the Nurse:

 To all Parents/Guardians:

School policy requires the renewal of medication orders (including inhalers and/or epipens) EACH school year.  Physician Medication Order/Parent Consent Forms can be picked up in the Health Office and need to be completed by your child’s Physician and by you for all prescription medications and most over the counter medications you desire your child to receive while in school.  The completed form and medications need to be returned to school on the first day  by a Parent/Guardian (not by a student).  Please remember that any medication brought to school by a student will be confiscated and not administered.  Cough drops and TUMS are examples of medications that are NOT permitted to be in the student’s possession and require a Physician order to be dispensed at school.

PLEASE NOTE:  medications that are on file this year must be picked up by a responsible adult no later than June 21, 2013.  ALL MEDICATION NOT PICKED UP WILL BE DISCARDED.

REMINDER to Parents of students entering 7th Grade:  STATE LAW MANDATES that students entering Grade 7 in September must have a TD Booster (TDaP) if more than 5 years since last dose, have the hepatitis B series, and documentation of varicella (chicken pox) or current varicella (TWO doses) immunization.  If you have not all ready done so, please mail proof of these immunizations to your school nurse to avoid noncompliance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health Regulations and exclusion from school.

REMINDER to Parents of Students Entering 8th Grade:  Your student must have an 8th grade physical or a physical within the last 4 years.  Private Physician’s Examination forms are available in the Health Office for your health provider to complete.  Also, athletes must have an updated physical examination on file each year.  Please send an updated copy of your physical form to the School Nurse in order to keep your child’s health records up to date.

 SPORTS PHYSICALS:

Annual physicals and proof of concussion information completion areREQUIRED for all sports!

Track and field hockey begin shortly after the start of the school year.

Thank you for your cooperation in these very important matters.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

This will be my last year at the school so if anyone is interested in submitting these twice a year please contact me atgardner251@yahoo.com and I can take 5 minutes and hand over the information and go over it with you briefly. About CTMS:
Central Tree Middle School opened its doors to students in the fall of 1998 and looks forward to providing a superior education to all the students who pass through its halls.

Central Tree Middle School's mission is to develop a program to effectively implement the curriculum of the Wachusett Regional School District while providing an effective middle school program that meets the needs of diverse learners, provides appropriate student services, and ensures a safe learning environment. Use the links to the left and right to access important information about our school.

When sending any notes to the office:  please print your student's first and last name. Students and parents frequently have different last names and parent signatures are sometimes difficult to read. We want to avoid any confusion and be sure we know which student you are referring to.
Make up Homework:  Homework requests are not done until a student has been absent for three days. Please request the homework when you call you child in sick on the morning of the third day. Many teachers post assignments on their websites, so it is a good idea to check there first whenever your child is absent.
Bus Issues:  In the event that the bus is late, parents should contact McCarthy Bus dispatch to find out the reason directly.  The phone number is (800) 483-1669.
