WELCOME - INCOMING 5TH GRADE PARENTS AND STUDENTS

On Thursday, April 30th, Chocksett welcomes our incoming 5th grade parents for an introduction to life in 5th grade.  We will share what to expect in 5th grade, answer questions that you may have regarding your child's transition to Chocksett, and provide a tour for interested parents.

On Friday, May 1st, 4th graders will visit Chocksett and have an opportunity to meet with 5th grade staff, an introduction to our Music Department, a question and answer period, as well as a tour of their new school.

Let us show you our appreciation for all you do!

If you provide endless hours staffing the Chocksett Library, serve on PTO or SIMCO, volunteer in the classroom, read to our students, chaperone our many, many activities, helped out at the turkey trot, copy or laminate for teachers, help with fund raisers, work with our sport teams, assist with any after school activities, or any other way in which you have supported Chocksett Middle School - this invitation is for you!!

We invite you to attend a "thank you" breakfast on Friday, May 22nd, at 8:15 AM, at which time we will simultaneously welcome the Sterling Seniors.  We continually promote community at our school, and believe this celebration will demonstrate just that, as our students will serve and entertain you all.

Friendly Reminder - If you plan to dismiss your child during the school day, or pick your child up at the end of the day - please send in a note to your child's homeroom teacher on the day of the dismissal/pick-up.  A note to the school (rather than a call into the school) eliminates the chance for miscommunication, allows student, staff and office to be informed about the arrangement,  and also minimizes classroom interruptions.  Telephone calls to the office for such arrangements should be based on "emergency" situations only.  Our practice for dismissals during the day is to call the student to the office upon your arrival to collect them.  So, please time your arrival accordingly to meet your next destination.

We appreciate your attention to this matter!

Our weekly agenda is forwarded to families by email every Friday at approximately 4:00 PM.  If you do not receive this weekly communication, please contact the office, so we can be sure we have your correct email address on file.

FOR.........

SPORTS AND AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

As soon as we receive any notification of cancellation due to weather, we will update the home page of our website immediately.  For sporting events/games, it is the home team who decides on cancellation.  For practices, it is the coach who will notify the office with their respective cancellations.  If there is no update posted, consider the event still "ON"

In the event of cancellation, students will take their regular transportation home at the end of the day.

DISMISSAL

Our goal at Chocksett is to dismiss all students in a safe, timely manner.  When picking up your child at the end of the school day - during regular parent pick-up, please pull your car up as far as possible, leaving minimal space between cars, allowing as many cars as possible to create a line.  Thank you very much for your attention to this request.

Absence/Sick Line and Dismissals (978-422-6771)

If your student is sick or will be arriving late, please call the school. Homework requests for students will only be filled starting the third (3rd) day in a row of absences. The request may be left on the answering machine or by emailing the teachers directly. After 8:00 AM, please call the CMS phone line at 978-422-6552. If you receive a phone or email message informing you that your student is marked absent, please call 978-422-6552 and ask to speak to the nurse. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SICK LINE AFTER 8:00 AM. Thank you for your support in this important matter.
Please do not call during the school day for early dismissal,
except in the case of an emergency.

Academic Progress
In the interest of "going green" and in recognition that the vast majority of parents are already utilizing PowerSchool Parent Access to monitor student academic progress, we are no longer distributing student progress reports in Grades 6-8. Parents of Grade 5 students will be contacted directly by their child's teacher, if there is a concern that needs to be discussed.
Parents who do not have internet access and wish to receive paper copies of updated academic progress must call the office at 978-422-6552.
Report cards will continue to be distributed on paper as we have traditionally done.

School Closings or CancellationsOffice News, on the left side of your screen, has the list of places to check for school cancellations, delays, and early dismissals due to inclement weather. In addition, a Connect-Ed message will go out to all students' families, unless they are on the "Do Not Call" list.
