Grade 1
Grade 1: Social studies outcomes: Identify polar regions on globe or world map. Compare/ contrast weather patterns and season in polar regions with local climate.
Grade 1: Science outcomes: Identify animal characteristics which show adaptation to their environment, including hibernation, coloration and defenses. Describe the interaction of animals within their environment. Describe polar regions as a habitat.

Grade 2 Science Outcomes: Life Science: Classify animals into the following categories: mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians and insects. Distinguish characteristics/traits for animal classification. Recognize the differences in animal sensory characteristics. Examine African regions as habitats. Observe and record the interaction of an animal(s) within its/their environment (plant, animal, people). Recognize relationships among members of a community/colony (stress interdependence).
Grade 2 Social Studies Outcomes: Locate the continent of Africa on a globe and world map. Identify some African countries and geographical features. Compare MA (e.g., Sahara & Gobi deserts, Victoria Falls, the savanah. Compare/contrast African climate and weather cycles with community. Describe an African community. Compare/contrast communities with one of another culture.
Grade 3: Social Studies Outcomes: Describe the history of the state. Apply research skills through contact with historical materials related to Massachusetts, such as photographs, maps, documents, and artifacts. Describe political boundaries through knowledge of Massachusetts cities and counties. Identify state government organization. Identify state government leaders. Demonstrate an understanding of how laws are made and how they help us. Demonstrate an understanding of basic concepts of decision-making and participate in voting.
