Read the book Our Garage Sale by Anne Rockwell and
discuss prices of objects in the garage, tag, or yard sale. Students are invited to bring
old items from home for a class pretend tag sale. The class as a group can label the
objects with tag sale prices. Students take turns purchasing items with play money. They
may keep their choice if they have estimated the cost within an agreed upon limit. This activity can be held for real with real money as a class fundraiser. It is also an activity that can be repeated throughout the year with different objects brought from home.

Take turns estimating the profits from the garage sale.
Individual coins can be shown with a picto or bar graph.
