Davis Hill School Visual Arts Program
The Visual Arts Program at Davis Hill Elementary provides a framework to familiarize the student in the areas of visual and tactile sensitivity, proper use of materials, confidence in self-expression, art history, and art terminology.
The success of the art program that we provide depends to a large degree upon the maintenance of a balanced program of instruction. We believe that Art should not be taught as if it consists entirely of drawing with crayons on white paper.
Our lessons are lively and thoughtfully varied. We always make use of the many available art mediums and the countless ways of creating with them.
Our art program is sequentially based. This allows for children to build upon their skills as they grow and mature. Skills that have been learned and developed in first grade will become the basis of continuing projects later in the year, and in the years to come.
We also integrate Art into other curriculum areas. We believe that this in an important ingredient in any art program. It is our responsibility to plan art activities that will ensure every child a number of positive experiences in class.
Our goal is for every child to foster an enjoyment for Art, build self confidence, and appreciate the Art that surrounds them every day.
