Davis Hill Library Media Center Program 


The mission of the library media center is to ensure that the students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. The Center reflects the needs of the school population and functions as an integral part of the school and curriculum by providing access to a collection of information. It should provide opportunities for learning across disciplines by using the most appropriate tools and resources available.

This mission will be accomplished by working to meet the following goals:

  1. To provide intellectual and physical access to information and ideas for a diverse population.
  2. To provide leadership and expertise in the use of information and current instructional technologies.
  3. To provide resources for educational, cultural and recreational reading that contribute to lifelong learning.
  4. To provide a facility that functions as the information and center of the school.
  5. To provide for a facility which is convenient, comfortable and esthetically inviting, and that provides adequate and appropriate space for all the resources and activities of the program.
  6. To participate in networks that enhance access to resources located outside the school.


Flexible Access Policy
  1. The use of the media center is determined by teacher/student needs and interests.
  2. The media center is used as a public facility to accommodate staff and students of different age levels and grades simultaneously.
  3. As a public facility, library courtesies and respect for others must be observed.
    • Voice levels should not interfere with the work of others.
    • Materials should be reshelved in the proper place.
    • Personal belongings should be removed when leaving and all trash placed in the waste basket.
  4. The media center is used all day by students involved in a variety of independent or group activities.
  5. The media center is available for classes, small groups and individuals.
  6. The media center is used for research, educational and recreational reading.
  7. Students learn to locate materials through frequent practice.
  8. Students check out books any time and day of the week.
  9. Students have opportunities to browse, explore and use all materials.
  10. Students use the facility independently.
  11. Teachers use the media center as an extension of their own classroom.
