School Business Banking Program in 12th Year

at Dawson

Dawson School is in its 12th year of a school business partnership with the Holden Branch of Bay State Savings Bank. The Bank has been providing a “Smart Saver” student banking program for grades 3-5.  Trained fifth graders work as tellers with volunteer parent supervisors.  Third grade teacher Pat Bocian and fifth grade teacher Liz Warner serve as liaisons to Bay State for the partnership, organizing and overseeing its implementation.  About 50 students have “Smart Saver” accounts which provide an opportunity to develop money management skills and to learn to add to a savings account on a regular basis to meet financial goals.  In late spring, the third grade students and teachers will take a field trip to the Holden branch of Bay State where Branch Manager, Lisa Gurevich and Assistant Branch Manager, Veronika Tovanyan, and her staff will conduct an educational program on banking operations and conduct a tour of the facilities.  The Bank will fund the cost of the transportation of students for this trip.
