Dear Glenwood Families:

As the daylight dwindles, it is time to welcome Glenwood students back to school.  The floors gleam, woodwork shines and the building continues to have that new “feel” to it.
Throughout the summer, five new teachers have been hired, a district-wide transition program has moved from Davis Hill Elementary to Glenwood, and the playground is in.

Of our current staff, a few have made some changes in teaching assignments.  Ms. Kelly Paquin will now teach grade 2 along with Ms. Elizabeth Naples. Some of the new members of the staff are familiar faces.  Mrs. Deborah Baldwin has been hired permanently to replace Mrs. Piper, who retired, in Kindergarten.  Mrs. Trefa White joins Glenwood in grade one as Mrs. Kalinowski has been granted a one-year maternity leave.  Mr. Matthew O’Donoghue, grade 2, is new to Glenwood from Worcester Public Schools, and is taking over for Mrs. Parslow who also has been granted a one-year maternity leave.  Ms. Dianah Milewski, grade 4, spent last year teaching fourth grade in Leicester while Ms. Bridget Tucker, grade 5, is a recent graduate of Fitchburg State College.  Mrs. Karen Cappucci, transition teacher, has moved from Davis Hill to facilitate the district-wide transition program.  Mrs. Chris Lawton has also been hired as the new school nurse as Mrs. Gerard has accepted a position in a district closer to home.

Glenwood is also hard at work in year two of the District’s reading initiative.  Workshops were held in July to familiarize teachers with the process and 4 Literacy Coaches for grades K-3 have been engaged by the District to support them in this endeavor as well as model lessons and provide ongoing training throughout the year.  The District also purchased classroom libraries for each room in grades K-5 and all students will be assessed twice this year using the Developmental Reading Assessment along with DIBELS.

If you wish to volunteer at Glenwood, please remember a valid CORI is required.  Should you have questions regarding the status of your CORI, please contact Mrs. O’Coin in the school office.  Only one CORI is required for any school within the District.  Something new and under construction is our website, http://www.wrsd.net/glenwood/home.html.  As it develops, check it out.

Sincerely,

Kelley A. Nosel
