Asking Questions

Asking questions before, during, and after reading allows a reader to exand thinking and enhance understanding. Questions help a reader focus reading goals and processes. Questioning also prompts a reader to make inferences, discuss thinking with others, or consult other sources of evidence in the process of finding answers. Sample lessons for this strategy are included in the table to the right.
