Making Connections

Reading involves constant engagement with new demands and purposes for a reader. Activating background knowledge and connecting to text helps a reader understand new reading experiences. Sometimes a reader's schema includes misinformation or misconceptions. Contrasting misconceptions with new information or ideas in a text helps a reader develop accurate thinking. Merging our connections with ideas in a text also expands a reader's engagement and appreciation. Sample lessons and tools for making connections can be found to the right in no particular order.
