Mountview Activities Page
Please note that not all of this information is complete. It will be updated as information becomes available. Please note the the programs listed below were ones that ran at Mountview last year. Due to funding, schedules, and other unforeseen circumstances, these programs may or may not be run this year.
Late Buses - Late buses run Monday through Thursday. They leave Mountview at approximately 4:15. Depending on the number of students on the bus, which varies daily, and the distance you live from the school, it could take your child up to one hour to get home. Late buses begin on Monday, September 17th. If you have specific questions about the stops the late bus makes, please contact McCarthy Buses at 1-800-483-1669.
Athletics - Mountview offers a wide variety of athletic opportunities to our students. Announcements will be made over the PA and at lunch regarding tryout days and times. When possible, tryout times will be posted on the "This Week's Events" page and on the "Today's Announcements" page. Tryouts, practices, and games/meets run later than 4:15, so students would need to make arrangements for their own transportation home. There is a $50 fee for athletics at Mountview. This is a one-time fee and would cover all sports (one fee per child, not per sport). Fees are due to Mr. McCarthy in the office when the child makes the team, please not before. In order to participate in sports at Mountview, students must have a green card filled out and on file with the school. Students need a new green card each year.
In the fall, we have boys' soccer, girls' soccer, girls' field hockey, and track (click here for Mr. Paradis' track information page). Tryouts for these teams happen right within the first few days of school, as teams need to be set for early games.
In the winter, we offer boys' and girls' basketball as well as cheerleading for girls. These tryouts generally begin around mid to late November. Again, students will need to listen carefully to announcements for tryout days and times. We will do our best to keep these times posted on our website as well. Games begin in January, usually right after the December break, and run through February vacation. Playoffs and cheerleading competitions take place after February vacation.
In the spring, we offer boys' baseball and girls' softball. The boys' baseball team in a non-cut team at Mountview, and our coach makes every effort to get playtime for all who participate. The travel team will be the group who plays away games. Girls' softball is a traditional cut team at Mountview. Tryouts for these sports begin in late March or early April, and games begin when the fields are dry enough for play.
Mathletes - Mathletes is a competitive math team that meets weekly at Mountview. Practices are every Monday after school from 3:00-4:00. This team is facilitated by Mr. Scott Hill and Mrs. Lisa O'Connor. For more information on this team, please see the Mathletes' page on "teacher pages."
Student Council - Mountview's student council is facilitated by Mrs. Deb Mudge and Mrs. Lorraine Neilan. Those students interested in running for student council, should fill out a nomination form and turn it in to Ms. Mudge in room 300. Student Council elections are held in mid-September. Meetings are held once or twice per month on Wednesdays at 7:30 in the morning. Eighth graders are eligible to run for office, including secretary, treasurer, vice-president, and president. Elections will also be held for 8th grade SIMCO representatives to attend meetings one Tuesday each month at 5:00pm. Students on SIMCO work with teachers, parents, community members, and administration to develop future plans for Mountview.
School Musical - Each year, PTA sponsors a schoolwide musical production. This year, auditions will take place on December 13th and 14th after school. Prior to those audition dates, students will be given information on what to do to prepare for the audition as well as a specific audition time. Play practices will begin in January and run through the production dates on March 12th, 13th, and 14th. This is a big commitment on the part of the participants, but it is a lot of fun! We will also need responsible students to sign up for backstage crew. We will put a call out at lunch in early February for those interested in helping out backstage.
Pep Squad - Mountview's Pep Squad meets after school in January and February as well as at all home basketball games to bring out the school spirit in the crowd. Although this squad was originally developed as a secondary option for those who did not make the cheerleading squad, it has developed into a co-ed group who has a ton of school spirit!
Geography Club - The geography club meets after school twice per month to challenge those who just love geography! Facilitators Mr. Champlin and Ms. Walz will post announcements on the PA when meetings begin.
