As one part of its accountability system, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MDESE) oversees local compliance with special education requirements through the Coordinated Program Review (CPR). This review is routinely conducted by the state of each community in the Commonwealth in a six year rotating cycle. In June of 2007 the WRSD underwent a MDESE Coordinated Program Review (CPR).

The initial draft of this report was submitted to the district on November 28, 2007. Subsequently, the district prepared and submitted a rebuttal document to dispute some details of the MSEDE’s initial findings. The FINAL publication of this review was published on April 8, 2008. While time constraints dictate that we focus our comments upon areas in need of improvement, we would like to recognize that this district achieved a Commendable rating in our success at obtaining Parent Participation in Team Meetings. However, the final publication of this review included 46 elements where our district was evaluated as Partially Compliant and 5 elements were rated as Non-Compliant. These ratings mean that in 51 specific areas our district was not (at the time of evaluation) meeting the state’s minimum requirements for these elements.

A final draft of the district’s Corrective Action Plan (CAP) was submitted by the administration for review.  This plan was been reviewed, amended and approved by MDESE.
