DESE PD Opportunites

Below are additional DESE pd opportunities sent out today that may be of interest to you:

1) Self-Paced PD on Serving Multilingual Learners:

The Department’s Office of Language Acquisition is offering a set of WIDA self-paced professional development workshops available to Massachusetts educators at no cost. The eight asynchronous workshops include an orientation to the 2020 edition of the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework, as well as a range of topics. Time commitments range from 1 to 20 hours. The workshops can be mixed and matched to suit individual educator needs or the needs of teams of educators, and WIDA certificates accumulated upon successful completion of each workshop can be applied toward professional development points (PDPs) for licensure renewal.

2) Seeking Members for the Arts Education Advisory Council:

The Arts Education Advisory Council of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education is seeking applications from individuals interested in advising DESE and the Board on topics related to arts education. Discussions will likely include the development of resources and initiatives centered on implementation of the 2019 Arts Curriculum Framework (download).

It is anticipated that meetings will be 90 minutes long and take place four times per year. Members are expected to attend all four scheduled meetings, if possible. The meetings, subject to change, are scheduled for:
  • 3:30-5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3 (virtual);
  • 3:30-5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5 (virtual);
  • 3:30-5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2 (virtual); and
  • A time to be determined on Thursday, May 4 (in person).
