The WREA PD Committee has provided feedback that our educators would appreciate information on additional SEI PD opportunities.
We have contracted with MATSOL to not only add another session on November 8th (previously communicated), but also offer one more new session on November 21, 2022 from 4-6 PM. Since K-5 Teachers of Math are attending a full-day pd on 11/8, they will be given a week’s opportunity to sign up first for 11/21, as there is an audience limit of 25 participants. If there are still openings after 10/28, we will open up registration to all. If this course fills up, we can certainly work with MATSOL to schedule another after-school session in the Spring. More information on the workshop and registration is below.
In addition, earlier this week I sent out information on a free WIDA self-paced PD opportunity, also described further below. If you are interested in participating in these WIDA workshops, please email [email protected], our ELE Specialist, and she will set you up with a WIDA account to access the self-paced pd.

Workshop Description:
Participants will gain broader and more defined definitions for language development. Nuances and next steps for several key strategies from the SEI Endorsement course will be reviewed. Strategies and resources to effectively shelter instruction while developing language will be discussed. (2 PDPs) **Meets SEI/ESL recertification requirement.
Self-Paced PD on Serving Multilingual Learners**:
DESE’s Office of Language Acquisition is offering a set of WIDA self-paced professional development workshops available to Massachusetts educators at no cost. The eight asynchronous workshops include an orientation to the 2020 edition of the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework, as well as a range of topics. Time commitments range from 1 to 20 hours. The workshops can be mixed and matched to suit individual educator needs or the needs of teams of educators, and WIDA certificates accumulated upon successful completion of each workshop can be applied toward professional development points (PDPs) for licensure renewal. **Meets SEI/ESL recertification requirement.
