Middle of Year STAR Benchmark Assessments

Happy New Year!

As listed on the District Assessment Calendar, the Middle of Year (MOY) STAR Assessment Benchmark Tests for students in grades K-8 will take place between January 9th through January 27th.
The immediate information we receive on our students is very important and will assist in identifying strengths and areas to target instruction, and track student growth from the beginning of this school year.

Test Administration Notes/Reminders:

  • STAR recommends you administer the Math Assessment first (before Early Literacy or Reading).
  • All Gr. K students will take the STAR Early Literacy assessment.
  • All Gr. 1 students will take STAR Early Literacy and STAR Math assessments.  Then, based on a Gr. 1 student's result on the STAR Early Literacy Assessment, if they scored above an 852 Scaled Score on the Unified Scale, you may also test them with the STAR Reading Assessment to obtain further detailed information.
  • Grades 2-8: Based on a student's result, if they scored below an 852 Scaled Score on the Unified Scale, you may also test them with the STAR Early Literacy Assessment to obtain further detailed information.

In order to support you as you administer STAR Testing, a reminder that Administration Resources have been created by our own Matt Haynes, and can be found in this  STAR shared google drive

For each of the three tests (Early Literacy, Reading, and Math) there are two slide decks for staff to view:

  • The Student Prep Activity has 2 slides of instructions for teachers, and the rest can be shown (with audio, if desired) on classroom displays to students. This previews the experience for the kids and solicits questions. There are also a number of teacher notes in the speaker notes area.
  • The Day of Test Instructions are just that - a merging of the Star script with teacher prep and troubleshooting steps. There are a few slides teachers can show on displays, but most of it is meant for teachers to just read off the screen.

Thank you for your support in administering these assessments with efficacy in order to gather accurate and important information on our students' learning and growth!
