Full Day Kindergarten

WRSD Full Day Kindergarten

In addition to its standard Half-Day Kindergarten program, the Wachusett Regional School District offers the opportunity for children who meet the age requirement to attend tuition-based Full-Day Kindergarten.  Seats for the Full-Day Program are awarded through a lottery and are dependent upon enrollment for the school year. Students who are not selected (or not entered) in the Full-Day Lottery, will attend Half-Day Kindergarten.

NOTE: Tuition-based Full-Day Kindergarten is currently under review.   A decision will be made at the end of May as to whether the District will continue this program or will instead proceed with tuition-free Full-Day Kindergarten for all students.  For those parents who need to plan for Full-Day Kindergarten, a lottery will be held on March 29th.  If your child is selected in the lottery and the District continues with the current tuition-based program, the first deposit will be due by June 30th.

Full-Day Kindergarten Overview

  • The Kindergarten Registration Packet must be completed and submitted to the school that serves your neighborhood in order for a child to be eligible for the full-day kindergarten lottery. Regardless of possible intentions to seek an in-district transfer, your Kindergarten registration packet must be submitted to your neighborhood school. Students who do not have a completed Kindergarten Registration Packet on file will be removed from consideration on the day of the lottery.
  • The full-day program is optional and tuition-based.
  • Children must be 5 years of age on or before August 31, 2019.
  • The full-day program is 5 days per week.
  • Kindergarten transportation is provided to those outside the walk area.
  • Financial assistance is available based on federal free and reduced lunch guidelines.
  • Lottery applications must be submitted online by Friday, March 15th.
  • The lottery will be held on Friday, March 29th at 4:00 in the Curriculum Center (lower level) at Jefferson School, 1745 Main St. Jefferson.
  • Attendance at the lottery is not required. Parents not present at the lottery will be notified by email the following week.
  • In order to register, click on “Enter the Full Day Kindergarten Lottery” at the bottom of this page. Once you have completed the form you will receive an email to confirm your entry. Please retain this email as verification of registration in the lottery.
  • Duplicate entries will be removed from the Kindergarten lottery list.

  • Half-day kindergarten is free for all District residents.
  • The yearly tuition for the 2019-2020 Full-Day Kindergarten will be $3,500.
  • The tuition rate and payment schedule are as follows.

Continued participation in the full-day kindergarten program is contingent upon the payment of tuition when due.

An $875 deposit must be received by June 30, 2019 to enroll your child in the full-day kindergarten program. Cash, check (made payable to the Wachusett Regional School District), or credit card payment using PayPal (accessed through the WRSD website) will be accepted.

Failure to submit the deposit by this date will result in your child's name being removed from the list and the seat being given to a child on the waiting list.

The remainder of the full-day kindergarten tuition must be paid using one of the following options:

  1. Payment in full at any time by PayPal or personal check
  2. By PayPal or personal check in three installments of $875 each due no later than
    • August 15, 2019; October 15, 2019; December 15, 2019
    • PayPal payments can be entered at WRSD Tuition Payments
  3. Automatic withdrawal from your checking or savings account in 6 monthly installments of $437.50.
    • Withdrawals will be made on the first day of each month July through December, 2019.
    • If you choose this option, a Prearranged Payment Authorization form along with a canceled check must be submitted by June 20th.

If, for any reason, a family is unable to make all installment payments on time, and if the entire tuition is not paid in full by December 15, 2019, the student may be withdrawn from the full-day program and enrolled in the half-day program.

Additional Guidelines

  • There will be no discount for families with more than one child in full-day kindergarten
  • Siblings who are full-day applicants will be treated as a single unit for lottery purposes. Full tuition must be paid for each child.
  • Any seats made available due to families moving will be filled from the waitlist.
  • Enrollment in a full-day program is assumed to be for the full school year. If a family moves out of the District, a pro-rated tuition will be refunded if another child takes that place in the program.

Multiple Full-Day Kindergarten classes are planned in some schools.  HOWEVER, if there are not enough participants in the program, the number of classes at a school may be reduced and some lottery winners may go on a waiting list based on the order in which they were drawn.
